Meltdown and Spectre Vulnerabilities

 

Computer researchers have recently found out that the main chip in most modern computers — the CPU — has a hardware bug. It's really a design flaw in the hardware that has been there for years. This is a big deal because it affects almost every computer.

 

This hardware bug allows malicious programs to steal data that is being processed in a computer’s memory. Normally, applications are not able to do that because they are isolated from each other and the operating system. This hardware bug breaks that isolation.

  

What is Vuture Doing about Meltdown and Spectre?

 

Data Centres and Servers

 

All server operating systems and hypervisors are receiving patches, as is the firmware of the physical machines we are running. The major equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are producing patches and together with our Data Centre providers we are obtaining these directly from the manufacturer and updating our systems. We will provide timeframes as we receive them.

 

The Vuture Platform

 

We are not aware of any issues with our platform and continue to use our robust internal and third-party security review process to ensure its security and integrity.

 

End User Devices

 

The major operating system vendors have produced patches which mitigate the issues and are installed immediately. However, it’s not sufficient just to update the operating system - so we are checking that the underlying firmware is also up to date.
