Overview
This article will walk you through how to use an 'Email Opened' Trigger to send a second email once someone opens an email.
These instructions are for those who are using Vuture with CSV files or the Contacts Module, as well as InterAction.
Please note, Triggers is a requirement. If you do not have Triggers, please speak to your Account Manager.
Important: The initial email, which is the trigger for the follow up email to be sent, must not be sent out (and potentially opened by contacts) before the Email Sent Trigger is created.
If the initial email is already opened by the time the Email Sent Trigger starts to operate, it will not "see" the previously opened emails.
The sequence should be:
1. Create Email 1
2. Create Email 2 (and any further emails in the follow up chain)
3. Create the Email Sent Trigger
4. Send out Email 1
5. Allow the Trigger to start, take over and decide who receives Email 2 and when.
Step by Step Instructions
Please follow the below instructions to send another email once someone opens an email.
Please note: Vuture records an Email Open when the recipient either downloads images in an email or clicks on a link in the email.
1. Create your first email. Please note: This will be referred to as your original email moving forward.
2. In the same email campaign, create the second email you wish to send to someone who opened the original email. Make sure this email is 'Published' otherwise click on 'Publish' > 'Publish Now' to publish.

3. Navigate to the Triggers screen and click on '+ New Trigger'.

4. Give your Trigger a clear name for what this Trigger will do for you. For example, if it is going to send a second email once the original email has been opened, name it 'If [Name of Original Email] opened, send this email'.

Important: Do not enable the trigger just yet. Wait until this trigger is setup and enable it from the 'Trigger List' screen.
5. Select the 'Email Opened' Trigger from the 'Trigger' drop-down.

6. In the first "Email" drop-down, you'll need to select the original email.

7. Select the Date and Time you wish to send the second email. This could be after but before a certain date/time. Or you can leave this blank and simply select a "Wait" option in Step 9.

8. In the "Action" drop-down, you'll need to select "Send Email to Matches", to send this second email to contacts who opened the original email.

9. Select a 'Wait' option to send the second email from the 'Wait' drop-down. Otherwise, leave this set to 'None'.
- The 'Wait for' option allows you to set a number of days and hours or number of minutes before sending the second email upon opening the original email.
- The 'At' option allows you to set a specific date/time to send this second email upon opening the original email.

10. In the second "Email" drop-down, you'll need to select the second email you wish to send once someone opens the original email. This email should be located in your Compose Email Folder.

11. Select your FROM Address.

12. (Optional) If you'd like to specify an email address for replies, please enter this email address in the 'Reply To' field.

13. Type in your Subject Line for this specific send.

14. Click on the blue 'Save' button at the bottom left corner to save your 'Email Opened' Trigger.

15. Double check that everything is correct (i.e. Date, Time, Email to send, Subject Line, etc.). Then when you're ready, Send the first email. From the Trigger List screen, check the box for 'Enabled' to enable your trigger. The trigger will then send the second email on a specific date/time or X # of minutes / days after the original email was opened by the contact (this is dependent on how you setup the trigger).
